Cooktown Hog Hunt

The recent Cooktown Hog Hunt saw 34 teams nominate, 128 competitors and 156 pigs caught,
weighing in at over 5166kg! This annual event is definitely picking up speed, with this, its fourth year being the
most successful yet. The hunt is a great opportunity to go bush for a weekend, catch up with mates
and offer assistance in eradicating the feral pig population of the region.

As word spreads, teams are now travelling from as far as Townsville, Weipa, Innisfail, the Tablelands and further.

The hunt was started in 2007 by Kevin and Kel who decided the management of these pests needed some sociability about it .

The biggest boar caught this year weighed in at a whopping 105kg, the biggest sow, 44.8kg, most pigs caught by a team was 61 and the highest
average weight of an entire catch was 52.58kg. Awards are also dished out for the best hunting utes, dirtiest trucks and hold your nose, most maggots!

If it’s your cup of tea, it’s a great way to meet new people, help a worthy and necessary cause and have some good old fashioned fun.

TJM Cairns has been sponsoring the Hog Hunt since 2008, heading up to take nominations, help with the weigh-ins, be a part of the action and contribute some great prizes.
Last weekend – 8-10/10/11 – was no exception with over $5000 worth of gear donated.

Guaranteed, the Cooktown

Hog Hunt will be even bigger

and better in 2012!!
